After being linked with Fulham and Cardiff City earlier in the summer the rumours now say that the Welshman could be on his way to Middlesbrough or Blackburn Rovers.
Although there are no attributable quotes or corroborating evidence in any of the stories it seems strange that they should have all picked up on the story at the same time.
It could be complete fiction as the idea of the club doing anything to force last season’s best performer out is ridiculous, or it could be that with contract negotiations in the offing the player’s agent may have been feeding stories to the papers in order to strengthen his bargaining position.
Worryingly there is also the possibility that the story is actually correct.
Whatever the truth of the matter is we certainly can’t afford to lose Speed, especially as results when he is not in the team suggest that he is our most important player.
