The defender sat out training on Wednesday in order to have treatment and is expected to be out of action for around ten days.
That would rule him out of the first game in Malaysia against Birmingham City and possibly the final or third-place play-off as well.
But with the competitive games not starting until August 12 or 13 there is no suggestion that Woodgate will miss the start of the season proper.
