Wolves boss Mick McCarthy met with the player personally, and according to reports from the Midlands, that swung the deal.

Now, former Mackem boss McCarthy, has warned Newcastle United off his star striker, after reports claim the Toon are back in the hunt.

McCarthy: "I'm not worried because we won't sell him, why would we want to?

"You'll find the players we're talking about want to get promoted with us.

"If someone whispers in their ear that they can get four times as much elsewhere that would be a problem and we'd have to deal with that.

"But Wolves isn't a stepping stone."

Where the hell the rumours has come from is beyond us.

After all, we don't have a manager, the transfer window is closed, and the owner is in ther process of selling the club!
