He is currently without a club after leaving Universitario de Deportes in Peru, but he wants a last crack at football in England before hanging up his boots.

He spent a few days training at League One outfit Colchester, a deal that was expected to earn him a permanent move, but both parties eventually opted against reaching an agreement.

The 35-year-old has been training with the Magpies, but Chris Hughton has yet to say if he is running the rule over the player, or doing him a favour.

The Peruvian has already taken in two spells at St James' Park over the course of his career, and a third would make him the first player to achieve that honour.

Kevin Keegan had three spells at the club, but only once as a player.
