John Beresford: "Harry is a fantastic manager but I just think certain clubs suit certain people. He's probably part of the furniture at Pompey these days but Newcastle made the perfect appointment in KK and it is starting to show.

"If you look at the last few games they've been awesome.

"They beat Fulham comfortably and then absolutely battered, and I mean battered, Tottenham before the Reading win which was a game I went into feeling the most confident I have done for some time.

"I have to say as well that although Kevin had a tough start, I knew it would be only a matter of time before this started to happen.

"He's just got this infectious personality that lifts players so high and gets the confidence oozing out.

"And I think he's the perfect fit for Newcastle.

"These certainly are exciting times again for the Newcastle fans.

"You only have to look around the team to see what he's done.

"It's not just the stand-out players like Habib Beye or Michael Owen, it's people like Joey Barton and Nicky Butt whom for me we weren't seeing the very best of in the previous regime.

"Now they look like a different class.

"It all certainly bodes well for next season too, especially if they go out on a high.

"From outside of Newcastle, Kevin has had a rough ride from the London press who were actually enjoying seeing Newcastle struggle.

"I think Kevin can now look at them with a wry smile.

"But from inside St James's Park it was very different. The fans will give KK time because he's doing it the way they want him to. Certainly you won't have fans chanting: "you don't know what you're doing" at him.

"But he does know exactly what he has to do."
