Who’ll be the next captain?

Future skipper?
The only question is whether it will be Kieron Dyer or Aaron Hughes.

"At the moment we don't need anyone to replace Alan Shearer, but I think handing Kieron the responsibility of captain gives him a boost," said Sir Bobby about Dyer.

"He is the sort of character who responds to it and raises his game as a result. He likes to feel important.

"I thought he did well in the role against West Ham and we got some extra out of him. He hadn't trained for two weeks before that game, but still managed to make it through the entire 90 minutes and was running right until the end."

But Sir Bobby also rates Hughes, commenting: "He's still very young but has already done so much and played so much international football. He could be a very good captain for Northern Ireland and Newcastle, as he gets such respect from the other players.

"He's a lovely boy, a tremendous character and gives us no problems. He's a reliable player, very conscientious and is professional in his application both on and off the pitch - he's the model pro."

Certainly Sir Bobby is right to see leadership potential in both players, but lets hope they’re both much older before it really matters.
