What Now For The Toon Baby-Sitter?

Sam Allardyce made Spain Under-21 international left-back Jose Enrique his seventh signing of the summer, and Luque was quick to say "I will help him settle".

But some still believe Luque, himself, has never settled on Tyneside, but perhaps he will have more success as a babysitter for Enrique than striker for the Toon.

Once again we hear Spanish clubs are "interested" in Luque. Supposedly Levante and Atletico Madrid, but I'm sure the media once again have taken a copy of the Spanish league table and stuck a couple of pins in.

How can we forget, Barcelona and Real Madrid were being linked last January! Yeah ... right!

The fact remains NO Spanish club, of any desctiption, has made an offer.

What name he made for himself in his homeland, and impressed Graeme Souness, has long gone. His every move has been transmitted back to Spain, and after all, they get SKY TV too.

There will be no pulling the wool over anyone's eyes. He has struggled since he made his move to the Premiership, and everyone knows it.

Today's report: "The player's father has confirmed that Luque would be interested in a move to Levante, but he also claimed that Levante have yet to make their interest concrete.

"This may be due to the price tag. Newcastle are allegedly after at least 2.5 million euros in exchange for the 29 year old."

He didn't make one single Premiership start last season, and don't forget Glenn Roeder went through a spell of playing anyone who was available when the injury crisis kicked in ... but he refused to play Albert.

All-in-all he has made 14 starts in all competitions in two years. Will he improve on it this season? I doubt it very much.
