Were Toon Ever In The Hunt For Kone?

fNewcastle United and Swansea had, alledgedly, submitted bids for the striker but Kone has decided to stick by his former manager Martinez and make his way to Everton in a £5 million move.

Kone is set to become Martinez first signing as Everton manager and the striker will sign a long-term deal to keep him at Goodison Park for the foreseeable future.

The striker joined Martinez at Wigan last summer after having a successful career in Spain and both men helped Wigan to win the FA Cup in May.

The rumour is that Kone rejected Newcastle, who matched the fee that Wigan were looking for while Swansea bid £5 million plus £1 million in extras but the striker decided to move to where his former manager was.

But the Chronicle suggested yesterday that Newcastle did NOT make an offer, and never intended to.
