Former Toon boss Steve McClaren was sacked on April Fools Day.

And it went down remarkably well with Newcastle fans.

If I was asked to name the WORST Newcastle manager of all time, McClaren would probably pip it.

QPR sacked the manager after less than a year in the job.

It was actually only the third time in his last seven club jobs where Steve McClaren lasted more than 31 games, managing 46 at QPR.

He managed a win ratio of only 34.8%, which at least was an improvement on the disastrous 22.6% when at Newcastle United.

Only two weeks after being sacked by the Championship club, Steve McClaren has declared an interest in getting back into management at another club.

The serial failure fancying a third go at FC Twente.

He won the Dutch league title with them, is only successful job since the sacking by England.

However, he lasted only a year when returning in 2012, asked to ‘hand in’ his contract, as he was sacked/resigned in February 2013.

FC Twente are on their way back to the Dutch top tier after a spell in the second division and Steve McClaren says he would be up for a return if there were decent prospects of success.

Steve McClaren speaking to Dutch broadcaster RTV Oost:

“If FC Twente asks tomorrow if I want to return, I will come immediately.

“For me it is a fantastic club, with great people, fantastic supporters.

“The fact that I had to ‘hand in’ my contract at FC Twente in my second period was one of the biggest setbacks in my trainer career.

“The club wanted me to leave.

“I don’t know why but they wanted to take a different course.

“Very disappointing for me.

“(If asked) I will do it again, provided that the prospects for a successful period are present.”
