Mapou Yanga-Mbiwa is on tour in New Zealand with the Magpies, but French radio station RMC have claimed that the two clubs are discussing what proportion of Yanga-Mbiwa’s wages would be paid by Bordeaux.
The 25-year-old joined United in January last year from Montpellier, with whom he won the French championship.
However, he didn’t make France’s World Cup squad with Fabricio Coloccini and Mike Williamson keeping him out of the Newcastle team.
