The Australian international joined the St James Park outfit on a free transfer from Middlesbrough in 2007 on a two-year deal - which expires in June - but having made only 31 appearances for the Magpies, it now appears Mike Ashley and Joe Kinnear are unprepared to take up a potential one year extension.
