Viduka made his return six weeks after Magpies supporters chanted "you're not fit to wear the shirt" when he limped off the pitch with a groin injury during Newcastle's 2-1 defeat to Wigan Athletic.

He is under pressure to perform during the rest of the season or risk missing out on a chance to extend his contract, which expires in June, for another year.

And although he insists he wants one more year in the Premiership before moving back to Australia, it seems it could be with Boro ... IF they stay up.

We hear he would welcome a return to the Riverside, but Boro would only consider a move if he slashed his wage demands ... and being out of contract ... that looks likely.
