Venables To Join The Cockney Mafia?

Venables has confirmed that he has held talks with Ashley, who is looking for an interim manager to step-in and fill the void that Chris Hughton is struggling to fill.

Newcastle suffered their fourth defeat in a row on Wednesday evening as they lost at home to Tottenham in the Carling Cup and Ashley has turned to Venables - whose last job was assistant to Steve McClaren with England.

Venables helped Bryan Robson and The Umbrella Man at Middlesbrough.

Venables: "I can confirm I met Newcastle representatives.

"Those talks will continue in the morning [Thursday] when, hopefully, I can give them a final decision."
