The Portuguese international, joined Newcastle for £8.5m when only 19 back in 2002. One of Sir Bobby Robson's many teenage buys that included Jermaine Jenas, Diego Gavilan and Loma Lua Lua. Played on the left of midfield but made a meal of the fact he prefered central midfield and continued to moan he was played "out of position".
Described by Bobby Robson: "He will become a legend". Sadly it wasn't with Newcastle. He only made 18 starts in three seasons.
Played the "home sick" card, and went back to Sporting Lisbon on a season-long loan in 2004. And left the club in a ridiculous cut price deal in 2005.
