Rafa Benitez has already backed Sean Longstaff to play for England following a string of impressive performances.

England face the Czech Republic and Montenegro at the end of the month in two Euro 2020 qualifiers.

And the Toon boss has banged the drum for another one of his young players to receive international recognition.

But following the emergence of Longstaff, Benitez has also backed Hayden, who is a product of the Arsenal academy, to play for the Three Lions.

He told the Mirror: “What I will say is that he has the potential.

“It wasn’t an easy situation for him at the beginning (of the season), but he came back quite well, now he’s doing well and he’s focused.

“Still he has the potential, he’s more mature, and hopefully he can continue learning.

“I don’t know if now it will be an option (for him to be in the England squad later this month), but I’m sure that if he continues playing at this level then in a few months he can be an option at least.”

Southgate has proved his commitment to promoting and backing young English talent.

Hayden has played for England at every level from U16 to U21.

The 23-year-old was a pivotal part of the Newcastle team that won promotion from the Championship in 2017.

He has made 14 appearances this season, scoring his only goal against Wolves which would’ve won the game were it not for a late error by goalkeeper Martin Dubravka.
