Goals from Leroy Lita, Shane Long and Sam Sodje enabled Reading to book their place in the fourth round of the FA Cup with a 3-2 home win over Burnley.
Reading took the lead in the 28th minute through Lita, one of only two players guaranteed a start at Everton on Sunday if fit.
The striker latched onto a flick-on from Long off De la Cruz's long ball and drilled a low shot across keeper Brian Jensen and into the net.
That advantage was doubled in the 37th minute by Long who netted from a tight angle after rounding the keeper.
Sodje made it 3-0 10 minutes into the second half, his first goal for Reading following his summer switch from Brentford.
But the Clarets bravely fought back from three down with goals from Ade Akinbiyi and substitute Garreth O'Connor but the home side held on and await the winners of the Birmingham-Newcastle replay in round four.
