Toon Win Northumberland Senior Cup!

OK, it's hardly the silverware we hoped for when the season started, but the kids did us proud last night, and perhaps we should be pointing the finger of blame at the senior pro's for not bringing home the bacon.

Arguments have raged throught this campaign, when Chris Hughton fielded the reserves in the League Cup, and Alan Pardew did the same for that humiliating FA Cup defeat to Stevenage, with both managers insisting: "The Premiership comes first".

Peter Beardsley's reserves strolled to a 4-0 win over Blyth Spartans in the cup final at St James' Park and the match was never in doubt.

Goals from Phil Airey (2), Michael Richardson and a wonder strike from James Tavernier set up the victory and it could easily have been an even heavier scoreline for the Magpies.
