Joe Kinnear has involved Kazenga LuaLua, Tamas Kadar, Ryan Donaldson and Nile Ranger in recent first team squads, while Mark Doninger and Jonny Godsmark have also been in contention.

And all six helped to bring a little light relief to the club on Wednesday night when they played their part in a 2-1 reserve team victory over arch-rivals Sunderland.

Goals from Ranger and Godsmark either side of David Dowson's equaliser were enough to condemn the FA Premier Reserve League leaders to just their second defeat of the season and their first at home.

Sunderland had skipper Jack Colback sent off 13 minutes from the end of a feisty encounter littered with yellow cards.

But the bad news ... Hungarian defender Kadar was stretchered off late in the game and taken to hospital.

The majority of the 1,516 home crowd were silenced when Nile Ranger steered a header home after Mark Doninger's corner to put United ahead.

Sunderland levelled it up on 41 minutes after David Dowson netted after Fraser Forster had kept out Jamie Chandler's shot.

Newcastle though regained the lead after great work from James Taylor and Geordie boy Godsmark converted to beat Nick Colgan.

NEWCASTLE UNITED: Forster, Taylor, Lough, Doninger (Inman 68), Henderson (Dummett 81), Kadar (McDermott 88), Godsmark, Donaldson, Ranger, LuaLua, Danquah
