The French trio posed some difficult questions of the Swans’ defence and Pardew was pleased with their output.

Alan Pardew: “Sissoko was powerful in the second half – he was dominating the game.

”Yohan and Gouffran had fantastic chances.

“Papiss did too and on another day they’d have gone on.

“Cabaye kept setting up attacks but we just didn’t take one. It was absolutely galling.

“I can’t remember being as disappointed as I am. But we’re not disheartened.

“When you’re away from home, you need different qualities, and we showed everything that we needed to show.

“The defence was sound. Steven Taylor was magnificent. The goalie’s made a couple of saves.

“Then in the second half our power and forward players started influencing the game.”
