Toon To Escape Major Summer Distractions?

An official club statement will be released later this week, but we can predict TWO facts that are sure to be on there:-

1) Chris Hughton is sure to lead the club in the Premier League.

2) Hughton will have control over transfers.

When Hughton took charge in pre-season last summer he, nor the fans, knew what Mike Ashley had planned and who was coming or going.

His permanent appointment will HOPEFULLY see him dabble in the transfer market without someone like Dennis Wise doing it for him.

However, Ashley’s relationship with the supporters still remains a bit of a tinder box.

The turmoil he created last summer is still fresh in the minds of the supporters, and it won't take much to bring it to the boil once again.

Ashley claims Newcastle United FC  is not up for sale, but that does not wash with the fans who know very well Ashley would take someone's hand off if they offered him a profit.

Make no mistake, if the offer is half-decent, Ashley will cash in.

Ashley tried to cut his losses and run after relegation, but no-one showed him the door. No serious offers - and he was forced to stay.

He will look to sell at a much higher asking price than the £100m he was prepared to take at Christmas, due to Newcastle’s return to the top flight ... but this has been firmly denied by senior United officials.

The mood should be one of optimism and excitement, but how much will Ashley spend in the summer, and is our squad good enough to hold its own.

Personally I feel we should enjoy the moment. We are back where we belong, so let's dwell on it while we can.

There are reports of a £35,000-a-week wage cap which will rule out the rubbish some newspapers are printing ... linking us with top stars from Bayern Munich and Barcelona.

There is a new prudence in the club’s transfer policy, but that may not be a bad thing for the time being.

Hughton will retain full control of transfers, in and out, although it remains to be seen how much of a budget he can lay his hands on.

Estimates vary between £10-30m but I'm sure Ashley will consider each player that Hughton suggests, and weigh up the options.

Ashley has been given another chance ... but he still has to prove he can make the most of it.
