Chelsea stayed six points ahead of Manchester City at the top of the Premier League after both were convincing winners on Wednesday night.
Jose Mourinho's side got back to winning ways against Tottenham at Stamford Bridge, having been held to a draw by Sunderland on Saturday.
Two goals in four minutes midway through the first half from Eden Hazard and Didier Drogba set Chelsea on the way to their 3-0 win, with Loic Remy adding a third 17 minutes from time.
City were the visitors to Sunderland this time and it looked like they could have a tricky evening when Connor Wickham gave the hosts the lead 19 minutes in.
But it took only two minutes for Sergio Aguero to level with his 18th goal of the season and Stevan Jovetic put City ahead six minutes before half-time.
Pablo Zabaleta's first goal of the season in the 55th minute extended the visitors' lead and Aguero made it 4-1 19 minutes from time.
It looked set to be another frustrating game at the Emirates Stadium for Arsenal against Southampton but Alexis Sanchez finally broke the visitors' resistance in the 89th minute to clinch a 1-0 victory.
The other match ended in a 1-1 draw between Everton and Hull at Goodison Park.
Romelu Lukaku opened the scoring in the 34th minute but Sone Aluko's first league goal since September 2013 in the 59th minute earned the visitors a valuable point to help them climb back out of the relegation zone.
