North Tyneside councillors unanimously approved plans for the new 38,750 square foot complex which will be on a par with the training grounds at high-fliers Chelsea and Arsenal

The Magpies had applied to demolish their existing Darsley Park complex, in Benton, and replace it with a 3,600sq-m centre, complete with gym, swimming pool, hydrotherapy pool, living and dining areas and outdoor barbecue zone.

Don't forget the outdoor barbecue zone!

The new 100m long, 40m wide and 8m high cross laminated timber building (built using wood sourced from sustainable forests) will be finished with rain screen cladding.

There will be private prayer rooms so Newcastle United's Muslim players will be given the option to use the rooms - and any players from other religions.

Nine trees will be cut down to make way for the new building and the car park will be redesigned.

'Time Team' will not be required, as no archaeological investigations will be required, says the Tyne and Wear Archaeology Officer who was consulted.
