The Sun claim the Spain international has asked for a six-year contract worth £31.2million to move to Anfield - and that comes on top of the £27million fee the Reds are expected to pay Atletico.

The Spanish side apparently want £24million up front for their star player and also want Liverpool to fund a pay-off in the region of £3million which is due to Torres under the terms of his Atletico contract.

So ... working on those figures ... Michael Owen cost Newcastle £17m and has a four year contract worth £103,000 a week. Wages alone will cost the Magpies £21,424,000, add on the fee and that totals £38,424,000.

So far he has started 13 games in two years, making that (to date) £1,477,846 per game.

As Shearer said: "I cannot see him walking away. He owes Newcastle big time for standing by him during his injury".
