Chris Hughton: “It feels great to join the list of great managers at this club who have achieved something.

“I’m so proud and it’s a proud moment for my family as well.

“You’re always aware of the fact that there have been a lot of people involved in this.

“I’ve worked very closely with Colin Calderwood all season, who has been brilliant for the club, as has (goalkeeping coach) Paul Barron. They have to take a lot of the credit as well.

“We’ve had difficult periods when we’ve not played so well, but we still won our games.

“We’ve had to really dig deep to find the spirit. We’ve kept the competition going all season.

“That is real testament to the team ethos here.

“It’s just a wonderful and proud moment.

“Beating Sheffield United the way we did summed up our season, the way the game ebbed and flowed.

“We went 1-0 behind and it wasn’t our best performance in the first half.

“We have so much guts and determination in this team that we’re able to come back from it and get the goal to win the game. We could have had more too. It sums up this team.”
