Sam Allardyce has moved to secure the futures of Charles N'Zogbia and James Milner for the long term, while discussions will reopen this week with Steven Taylor.

Now Butt is finally showing us what he did at Manchester United and repaying his £2.5 million price tag.

Butt is 32 and in the final year of his contract and is set to begin talks with Newcastle officials.

Butt. "My contract expires in the summer of 2008, but I'd like to end my career here," he said. "I think I've got a couple more years left in me yet and if I can sort out a new contract, that would be great.

Allardyce:  "We want to push on to Nicky Butt and people like that who are in the last year of their contracts.

"That's the next thing we have to do now that the [transfer] window is shut. Hopefully very shortly everybody will have agreed and we will have a much more settled camp."
