Bridge has been a target of several Toon managers down the years, including Sir Bobby Robson, who once offered £4m for the former Chelsea full-back.
Bridge is probably best known for his spat with Chelsea skipper John Terry - the handshake that 'never was' and his decision to miss the World Cup in South Africa "if Terry was picked".
He would probably fit in well with Steven Taylor and Andy Carroll at St James' Park.
