"Newcastle are in trouble without him.
"To get the fans back onside and through the turnstiles will be hard.
"I think Alan is the only man to do that. They will support him and love to have him in charge.
"It will be a much better club with him at the helm than anybody else.
"But the longer it goes on, the harder it is going to be.
"There are so many decisions to make - not just who comes in and goes out. The coaching staff needs looking at, the Academy, the scouting system - it's everything.
"It's been in decline for a long time.
"Mike Ashley needs tomake a decision.
"When I arrived in 1992, just before that nobody wanted to come to Newcastle. Under Keegan, top players signed and the fans came back, and Shearer has the same affect. He's a legend.
"When KK was here, everybody wanted to play for him. Alan's from that sort of mould.
"He can get players that other managers won't be able to get.
"Hopefully everybody will see sense, no matter who is owner of the club.
"They need Alan in charge and to then go forward.
"Until it is all sorted out by the owners the club is in stalemate.
"The fans deserve much better."
