Chris Waddle believes all is far from well.

Waddle: "Has Mike Ashley gone into that club with his whole heart really there and thinking, 'I'm going to make this club great'?

"I'm not saying he hasn't invested but he hasn't invested what people thought he would.

"It was easy for him to bring in Kevin because it was a popular choice with the fans and he knew he couldn't go wrong with that.

"But Kevin is very strong-willed and he'll have thought, 'If I am to get this team back to where I left it, in the top four, I'll need to invest lots of money'.

"He needed people to back him like (former owner) Sir John Hall did and it never happened from the start.

"So I think Kevin will have got very disillusioned.

"Dennis Wise (the club's executive football director), as people have mentioned, came in. Then (coach) Chris Hughton came in and you thought, 'Where did Kev pick him from or was he picked for him?'.

"It has never been a happy relationship."
