The official Toon website reports: "inspired individual performances from duo Brad Inman and Phil Airey contributed to a comfortable Newcastle United U18s victory at Berkshire club Reading in their FA Youth Cup fourth round tie on Wednesday.

"With fresh snow lacing the pitch at the Madejski Stadium, the youngsters braved freezing conditions to seize control of proceedings early on.

"Some impressive jinking runs by Conor Newton preceded the opening of the Geordie goal tally on 10 minutes when the ball was splayed over the Reading defence to the feet of Brad Inman. With a deft touch, the Australian-born midfielder brought the ball down and coolly slotted it past Simon Locke from just inside the area before being mobbed by his yellow-shirted team-mates.

"In the 44th minute, Phil Airey managed to get on the end of a sublime through-ball by the ever-prominent Inman and rounded the Reading goalie who had sprinted 25 yards from his line to intercept play. With Locke sprawled on the floor, Airey shot into an empty net from an acute angle to send the Toon into the break with their heads held high.

"The 2nd half proved a stark contrast from the 1st as a revitalised Reading side tore into yellow territory from the off. Kynan Isacc skipped round Alnwick in the box only to be brought down by the stopper. The resultant penalty was slotted into the bottom right-hand corner by a composed Walcott on 46 minutes.

"Under a cascade of mist, Newcastle got their third on the 57th minute, albeit against the run of play, when Walcott was the culprit in fouling Henderson inside the Reading area. Phil Airey took no prisoners when he smashed the second penalty of the tie into the bottom right-hand corner.
