The Tynesider made his first-team bow at Brighton ... but perhaps he could have picked a better day ...as Newcastle United's FA Cup dreams went up in smoke.

Dummett has picked up experience after spending time with SPL outfit St Mirren on loan.

Paul Dummett: “I am a local boy and every local boy wants to play for the club.

“Andy Carroll and Steven Taylor are local boys, and they did the same.

“I want to play for the club for as long as I can.

“The fans were disappointed – they travelled a long way to see us get beat, but I think they could see the players tried their hardest and put the work in.

“They have seen me play games and have always been up to date with how I have been going.

“Maybe that is why the manager was not frightened to put me in there.

“He could have put Shane Ferguson in but he trusted me.

“I am happy he gave me that chance.

“I was delighted to make my debut.

“I have been on loan for four months. I have experience there and I was happy to come back and make my full debut.

“Hopefully, there is more to come. Everyone went out there and tried their hardest.

“We are missing key players like Papiss and Colo, that was shown on the pitch.

“I want to show the manager I have come back a better player.

“It was good being on loan – I played 19 games and I am sharper and match fit.”
