Toon Fans Turn On Mitro

Newcastle United played out a 2-2 draw with Bristol City this weekend to leave the Magpies faithful bemoaning two more dropped points.

Rafa Benitez’s side should have won this match with ease given the clubs’ contrasting campaigns, but Newcastle had a late Ciaran Clark header to thank for their great escape.

Bristol City put their recent struggles behind them to take a 2-0 first-half lead before a Korey Smith own goal and Clark’s late rescue act ensured the result was not as embarrassing as it might have been.

One player who certainly did not do what was asked of him was Newcastle striker Aleksandar Mitrovic, who again put in a disappointing shift to prompt his critics to sharpen their proverbial knives.

While Jack Colback also flattered to deceive in the centre of the park, Mitrovic did not seem like scoring on a day when he should have been looking to fill his boots.

After the match we took to Twitter to see what Newcastle fans thought of the Serbian international’s latest performance and you can read a selection of what we found below:

I'm going to say it now, Mitrovic is not good enough!! How did he put that header over in the 2nd half, totally unmarked!! #NUFC

So what's the general consensus with Mitrovic and Perez?

Without wanting to "hate" them, can we at least call it like we see it? #nufc

Possibly the worst display of centre forward play today by Mitrovic #Nufc

We had enough chances to win 5 games today. But I'll say it again. Mitrovic offers nothing in the box #NUFC

Mitrovic isn't good enough there's no denying it, no movement he's slow, wins nothing in the air. Need Gayle back asap #nufc

Clark, Shelvey, Atsu, Ritchie all very good second half. Mitrovic could/should have had a hat-trick if he could anticipate a cross #NUFC

Sorry, but Mitrović is about as effective as Nile Ranger's been in our previous season down in the Championship. #NUFC

How many did Mitrovic score. Big fat zero. Again. Offers no goal threat whatsoever. Hard fought #nufc point but need 2 win these home games
