The Carling Cup tie with Spurs is not part of the season ticket deal (for most), and thousands intend to watch the match either at home on TV or in Tyneside pubs.

Newcastle have reportedly sold less than 15,000 tickets for the match, and the game is predicted to have the lowest attendance for a competitive match at St James' Park for years.

It could be the lowest since 14,000 turned up to watch a first-round League Cup tie against Mansfield in August 1992 ... during Ossie Ardiles' reign at the club.
