Derek Llambias, owner Mike Ashley’s righthand man, was verbally attacked by a group of Geordie fans in a bar at the Darlington Arena before the game.

With Ashley refusing to talk to Newcastle fans, or make any statements, it is Llambias who has to face the music.

And his comments last week about the £35m transfer money for the sale of Andy Carroll have supporters up in arms.

Llambias said in January: "I can promise supporters, all of the £35m will be given to Alan Pardew to buy players."

But last week he said: "Most of the money is gone, and what money we have left could be saved for the January transfer window."

And it was those comments the fans demanded answers to.

OK so he was verbally abused ... so what?

Joey Barton gets it everytime he walks onto a pitch away from St James' Park.

Judging by our NU-Mad message board, 95% of Toon fans think Llambias deserved what he got.

An FA investigation is now expected to be launched following the match, which saw more than 6,100 Newcastle supporters converge on The Northern Echo Arena ... and a ten-minute pitch invasion.

The match was delayed by about ten minutes as Newcastle boss Alan Pardew and assistant manager John Carver crossed the pitch to plead for calm.

After the match, Newcastle managing director Derek Llambias released a statement, which read: "On behalf of everyone at Newcastle United FC, we wholly condemn the behaviour of a number of our supporters who invaded the pitch during the second half of the club's friendly against Darlington this evening.

"The club will be seeking to obtain footage of the disorder from Darlington FC and the police and will be taking the strongest possible action against those individuals responsible for the shameful behaviour.

"This behaviour is not typical of the vast majority of our fans, however this incident gives a poor impression of Newcastle United and its loyal supporters."

LLAMBIAS DOESN'T SEEM TO BE GETTING MUCH SUPPORT:
