Donations have been pouring in to a fund set up by Sir Bobby Robson to fight cancer.

A page on the Just Giving website has been flooded with donations and had reached £1.6m on Monday morning.

The Sir Bobby Robson Foundation was set up by the former England manager in March 2008 to raise money to fund clinical trials of new drugs and treatments to beat cancer.

Professor Ruth Plummer, from the foundation, said: "There have been pages of donations even from early Friday morning looking at the website.

"People have been incredibly generous yet again, this time in memory of Sir Bobby."

The Sir John Hall Stand at the ground will be open from 0900 to 1700 BST each day this week for people to continue to pay their tributes.
