DAILY MAIL: Police have reviewed CCTV footage of the violence that swept from St James' Park down towards Newcastle Central Station.

s

Traffic cones, stones and other missiles were launched at police and rubbish bins set on fire as mounted officers had to force the mob back and away from the train station.

Newcastle said they were ‘embarrassed and appalled’ by what happened and have vowed to hand out lifetime bans to all those found guilty of being involved with the disruption.

There have so far been 29 arrests linked to the riots including a 45-year-old man who punched a horse outside the stadium. Four police officers were injured.

The 'deplorable' violence that shamed football happened after Sunderland won the Tyne-Wear derby 3-0 and came just hours after Millwall thugs rioted at Wembley during an FA Cup semi-final.
Police have since trawled through hours of CCTV footage to identify the culprits and have released their mugshots today.

A Northumbria Police statement read: 'We have released the first set of CCTV images of people we need to trace following disorder after the Tyne-Wear derby.

'The first of the CCTV images released of people we need to speak to in connection with the disorder were all taken on Westgate Road after the match ended.

'Anyone who recognises the people in the images is asked to contact us, anonymously if necessary, on 101 ext 69191, or independent charity Crimestoppers on 0800 555 111.

'We are also continuing to appeal for anyone who has information about those involved, or who has any footage of the incidents, to get in touch as soon as possible.'
