The New Shearer? Not A Smog For God's Sake!

Suddenly happiness turned to frustration in a matter of seconds as he limped off the field.

Sir Bobby Robson, 71 at the time, said he would do a similar back-flip if LuaLua scored a hat-trick against Sunderland. But sadly it didn't happen and Bobby was saved the task.

Pompey are fighting for Premiership survival, and Lua Lua is missing his old buddy Yakubu, a £7.5million signing by Middlesbrough last summer. Boro took the player right from under Graeme Souness' nose, as Newcastle looked set to sign him, and now Lua Lua says his old team-mate will go on to become as good as Alan Shearer.

LuaLua: "Yakubu can be whatever he wants to be, he is that good. He can become as good as Shearer."Alan is the best player I have ever played with but Yak is right up there. We had some great times at Portsmouth.

"He is a different kind of player to Al and relies a lot more on his pace. Most of Yak's goals are from inside the penalty area whereas Shearer scores from everywhere. Yakubu is still young and still learning but he scored 19 to 20 goals a season every season and that is not easy in the Premiership.

"He has been linked with some of the bigger clubs and I can see him going on to play for someone like Chelsea or Arsenal."
