Taylor handed him his NUFC shirt at the end of his victorious return in the Toon’s 2-0 victory over Capital One Cup holders Manchester City at the Etihad.

Tommy Best (a lifelong Newcastle fan) said:

I was at the game with my dad and a lad from near me and his dad.

“At the end I was stand down near the pitch with loads of other people and Ryan Taylor came over and was pushing people out of the way and he gave the shirt to me.

“I’ve seen him a couple of times before but I doubt he would remember me.

“He just said: ‘Enjoy this moment and keep the shirt for yourself’.

“I went and told my dad I’d got the shirt and he said: ‘Where is it?’

“I’d put it up my jumper because I didn’t want anyone to get it from me.”

“It was a dream-come-true moment, I could not believe it - I had no idea why he picked me."

Pete Best, Tommy’s dad, added: “He’s a talented young lad. He plays for Hartlepool’s academy now but used to be in the Newcastle Academy.

“His bedroom is covered in Newcastle posters.”
