How will we (the Toon fans) remember him?

I can name 20-odd WORSE Newcastle full-backs in my time following the club, and I'd certainly try and keep him on the books (if I was manager).

But Alan Pardew has other plans. So be it.

Danny Simpson: “Obviously, I’ve been used to playing week in, week out.

“Since I’ve been injured, the club has brought new players in.

“That’s just football. It’s good for the club. We’ve got players in. We needed them.

“I’ve got to train well, and if I’m called upon I’ve got to play well. It’s up to me to do well and give the manager a problem.

“I’m still a Newcastle player, and I’m not thinking about what’s coming up at the end of the season, I’m just thinking about training well and winning games.

“We want to push up the table and be where we feel we should be.

“I don’t think that (relegation) will happen, especially with the players we’ve brought in now.

“It’s given everyone a lift – the fans, the staff and the players. The last few games, since they’ve been in, have been good."
