Telegraph editor Tony Gallagher revealed to his Twitter followers that the Magpies had banished North East correspondent Luke Edwards from their press box after he reported tensions between the clubs’ large French contingent and the rest of the squad.
Edwards claimed that ‘some individuals have been more interested in complaining about tactics and worrying about their own personal agendas rather than helping the club to survive in the Premier League’.
Newcastle have been left infuriated by Edwards’ report, branding it a ‘flagrant misrepresentation’.
Gallagher tweeted: ‘Things at Newcastle must be worse than we thought: they have banned our reporter Luke Edwards for revealing the dressing room is split.
‘Worse, they have engaged lawyers to demand a public apology ‘forthwith’ and withdrawal of Luke’s article. I can help them here: no.’
