Carroll, who spent the first part of the season on loan at Preston North End, was apparently top of the Wiltshire-club's transfer list.The Gateshead-born youngster was supposedly a target earlier in the month for Motherwell boss Mark McGhee, who offered him a loan deal to the Scottish Premiership club.
