Sunday Was A Fabulous Day For Toon Fans!

CITY JUST TWO POINTS FROM RELEGATION SPOT!

Wayne Rooney's 100th goal in club football earned Manchester United the derby spoils despite them having to play for 22 minutes against Manchester City with 10 men afer Cristiano Ronaldo was sent off.

The England striker tapped home three minutes before the break after Joe Hart had failed to hold Michael Carrick's angled drive to give the visitors a deserved lead after they had much the better of the play in the first half.

But the Red Devils were forced to guide their way to victory without Ronaldo, who was dismissed midway through the second period when he was shown a second yellow card by referee Howard Webb for deliberate handball.

Both sides went close within seconds of each other as the clock ticked down - with Richard Dunne having an effort kicked off the line then Rooney having a long-range effort palmed wide by Joe Hart - but one goal was enough.

MOYES STICKS IT UP WOODGATE!

David Moyes marked his 300th game as Everton boss with a 1-0 Premier League victory over Tottenham courtesy of Steven Pienaar's deflected strike at White Hart lane.

Before the game former Toon star Jonathan Woodgate suggested Spurs were a better team (on paper) than Everton and deserved to be higher up the table than the Toffees.

Sadly for Woodgate ... Everton put him in the picture!

Pienaar caused a delay at the start of the second half as he was wearing the wrong shirt - then six minutes after the restart he found the back of the net when his shot cannoned off Vedran Corluka and past Heurelho Gomes.

It was Everton's third win in a row at White Hart Lane and was Harry Redknapp's first home loss as Spurs boss.

BLACKBURN CRASH AND INCE HAS TO FACE THE MUSIC!

Portsmouth blew a two-goal lead again at Fratton Park but finally clinched new manager Tony Adams' first home win as they beat Blackburn 3-2 thanks to a rare Sean Davis goal.

Pompey were 2-0 up against AC Milan in the UEFA Cup on Thursday before having to settle for a 2-2 draw and had the same advantage over struggling Rovers eight minutes after half-time when Peter Crouch and Jermain Defoe struck.

But Matt Derbyshire pulled one back for Rovers with his first touch less than 30 seconds after replacing Benni McCarthy and Tugay struck a 66th-minute equaliser before substitute Davis pounced on a rebound from Papa Bouba Diop's shot for his first goal since March 2006.

Under-fire Blackburn boss Paul Ince insists he is not feeling the pressure at Ewood Park and believes his players are "willing to die for each another".

The one-time Premier League champions find themselves in the relegation zone after Sunday's defeat at Portsmouth stretched their winless run to nine.

Blackburn's worst succession of results in 12 years has seen speculation mount about the long-term future of Ince, who took over in the summer after leaving MK Dons.

Ince: "This is not pressure. When you've got four kids, you live on your own, you can't find a job and you've got mouths to feed, that is pressure.

"I don't like where we are today but there are worse things in life.

"Nobody can question the spirit of the team.

"They are willing to die for each other. My players' heads will never go down."
