Alan Pardew has signed Yohan Cabaye, and is interested in Blaise Matuidi and Demba Ba.
Pardew is also monitoring Sulejmani at Ajax, but will have to stump up a sizeable fee for the winger if he is to head to Tyneside.
Sulejmani broke the Dutch transfer record when he moved toAjax for £15m in 2008 and he has a contract at the Amsterdam Arena until 2013.
The 22-year-old Serbia international has seven caps for his country.
