Steve Bruce Reveals Feelings on Imminent Newcastle United Takeover

Manager Steve Bruce has given his personal approval for the seemingly imminent takeover of Newcastle United, claiming that he 'would love' for it to be completed.

The proposed £300m takeover, which is now being assessed by the Premier League, is being led by businesswoman Amanda Staveley, while Saudi Arabia's Public Investment Fund (PIF) will have a reported 80% stake in the consortium.

It has faced major obstacles and controversy, including recent developments that have suggested there is a possible link between the Saudi government and a pirate TV platform that illegally broadcasts top-flight games overseas.

But with the takeover looking increasingly likely that it will go through, Bruce has given it the green-light, revealing that he wants to 'be a part of it'.

“I would love to see it happen and I’d love to be part of it," he said (via The Guardian). “If it’s good for Newcastle and the club are going to try and compete with these [top] teams, to be part of it would be great. If it happens, I’d be delighted.”

There has been much speculation swirling around the managerial hot-seat at St James' Park, with the prospective owners rumoured to want a big-name manager in charge to replace Bruce.

Ex-Spurs manager Mauricio Pochettino and former boss Rafa Benitez are among those who have been linked with the job.

Steve Bruce is confident he remains the right man to bring success to St James' Park

But Bruce is of the belief that, under his direction, the Tyneside club can go on to achieve much success.

He said: “You do get labelled in the game but I’d back myself, of course I would.

"To be in a position where you’re actually challenging and you have a good enough team as Newcastle did in 1995 [under Kevin Keegan] and then, later, under Sir Bobby Robson as well, would be wonderful.

"Management, whether you’re managing in the lower division or you’re right at the top, is about getting the best out of what you’ve got. I’d back myself.”
