The club, based in Walkergate, have played their matches at the Swans Recreation Ground since they were reformed in 1995 by father and son team Charlie and Kelly Scott.

East End FC was a founder member of the Northern League and merged with Newcastle West End in 1892 to form Newcastle United.

Chairman Kelly: “With all the hype going on with Sports Direct a few of us decided we would like to take the name on.

“We have kept a lot of the tradition going since reforming the club and we’re keen to do the same with the name.

“A lot of the kids are born and bred in Newcastle and they are as keen as us to keep the tradition going.”

Swans’ Recreation Ground was originally used by workers at Swans to relax and play team sports.
