Srnicek, who played for United last year in an emergency situation when Shay Given, Steve Harper and Tim Krul were injured - has spoken of his latest role in the game as goalkeeping coach/ scout at his first and hometown club.

The Czech played in the Prince's Trust Trophy game as the Northumberland XI beat a Durham XI 5-3 at St James' Park, a match that seems likely to be his last in a goalkeeper's jersey at the stadium.

Srnicek: "I'm back in the Czech Republic working for Banik Ostrava.

"I look after all the goalkeepers in the club, and scouting for new talent.

"I'm putting something back into football.

"It was fantastic to be back at St James' Park.

"I haven't missed playing football too much, but as soon as I stepped on to the pitch, especially as it was St James', I thought 'I'm going to miss this'.

"When I go home again, I'll be OK.

"It was a nice thing happening, and the good thing was that it was for charity."
