Speed back in training

The midfield lynchpin, sorely missed at Molineux, has already started jogging and cycling work and is optimistic that he might return before the original estimate of six weeks.

The Welshman told the Evening Chronicle: "The operation was a week ago today and I am still naturally a bit sore.

"But I have already started a bit of walking and jogging and working on the bike at the training ground.

"They say that after a hernia operation you need six weeks to get back into it all. But as far as I am concerned that's the longest limit.

"Alan Shearer was back playing four and a half weeks after his last hernia operation and that's what I am also hoping to achieve.

"And if I do manage this then we could be talking about me playing again by the end of January or early February.

"But at the moment I am not looking that far ahead, although I am more than satisfied at my progress."
