Spanish Clubs "Running Scared" On Luque

... Villarreal certainly didn't broadcast it on their official website. But, according to Newcastle's official website, it was a possibility but the Spaniards have signed Toon old boy Jon Dahl Tomasson.

The £9million price tag is dogging the ex-Deportivo star, and he has done himself no any favours by telling tales to the Spanish press of his unhappiness on Tyneside and the fact the manager would rather play kids from the Youth team than the Spanish international.

The clubs in Spain are starting to run a little bit scared of him, and only the likes of Real Madrid, Barcelona, and Valencia could afford his wages.

Villarreal appeared the most likely destination, but the loan of Tomasson (from Stuttgart) seems to have put Luque on the back burner.

Racing Santander are the latest Spanish club to quiz Newcastle, but like Dutch club PSV Eindhoven last week, they want the Magpies to pay a percentage of Luque's wages.

Glenn Roeder: "Luque's move to Villarreal is now very much in the balance because of the Jon Dahl Tomasson situation.

"In fact I would say that there has to be a big doubt that he will be moving there.

"The deal with PSV Eindhoven has also fallen through and there is no other club on the horizon.

"This being the case it looks as though Albert will be here not only for the rest of the season but also at the start of next season."
