The defeat at Highbury was hardly unexpected, but was upsetting in the manner it came about. Once again, as we have seen so often in the past with matches at Old Trafford and Anfield, the referee was swayed by the home support.
I am not fully behind Graeme Souness, but even his strongest adversary must admit his hands have been tied trying to bring in new players. The strike force was down to the bare bones on Sunday with a half-fit Alan Shearer the only striker available. I can honestly say I have never known anything like it at this club ... and don't forget ... this was the first game of the season! Not the back end of the campaign when injuries have taken a toll.
The club must bring someone in ... and quick.
