Souness Content With A Point

"I was very pleased with a point considering we had a long trip into Europe in midweek," the Toon boss said after the 2-2 draw at St Andrews.

"You can't under-estimate how much a five-and-a-half hour trip takes it out of players. Obviously with us not getting back until Friday it left very little time for us to prepare for the game.

"It was a tough game, but I was pleased with the determination of my players, especially in the second half. The game opened up and there were a few heavy challenges flying in. Every one of them stood up and was counted.

"When we went 2-1 down I had to make some tactical changes. We had to go after the game, that's why I switched to three at the back.

"But once we got the equaliser we were left very open, especially down the left so that's why we reverted to a back four again.

"It was good that two of our midfielders got on the scoresheet. Throughout the course of a season you can't just rely on your strikers, you need everyone to contribute."
