Paul Dummett has revealed his enjoyment at learning a trick or two from Real Madrid galactico Gareth Bale.

The Newcastle United defender will be spending plenty of time in training with the Welsh wizard in the next 10 days after being called into Chris Coleman’s squad to face Austria and Georgia in World Cup qualifying matches during the international break.

Bale helped Wales reach the semi-finals of Euro 2016 in the summer and scored twice in their homecoming match against Moldova last month in a 4-0 win.

Dummett told the Chronicle: “You never think you’d be training with one of the best players in the world like Gareth Bale. It’s good for me to watch and learn, and see how he trains and the stuff he does.

“That can only help me growing up as a professional. It will help me get better.”

And when asked what it is like to work closely with one of the world’s best players, Newcastle Academy product Dummett said: “Gareth is level-headed and a normal boy like anybody else in football.

“He just goes into training does what he has to do. He’ll practice free-kicks and prepare well for games. He is a top professional.”

Kenton lad Dummett has been a regular for United again this season and made 10 appearances so far.

He is hoping to add to his two Welsh caps in the games in Vienna and Cardiff in the next few days.
